Do I have the right to take my car to the shop of my choice?

Yes, you may select the collision repair shop of your choice, unless your insurance company states otherwise.

Can my insurer require me to use non-original equipment manufacturer (non OEM) replacement crash parts for the repair of my car?
No, unless the parts are at least equal to the original equipment manufacturer parts in terms of quality, safety, fit and performance. These are more commonly known as CAPA (Certified Automotive Parts Association) certified parts.

Should I contact more than one shop for an estimate?
Generally, one estimate is only required unless the insurance agency specified otherwise.

Am I responsible for the cost of repairs?

Yes, you are responsible for the full payment, unless your insurance policy specifies otherwise. Most commonly, if it is an insurance job, the insurance will cover most if not all costs.

What can I do if I am having difficulties with my insurance company?
